More about the artist

Arco Sessions: Kalispell “Marion, MT” from Peter Elliott Eaton on Vimeo.

Shane Leonard’s interest in songwriting and old traditional music wasn’t passed down from family, as it is was with most of the musicians he’s come to admire, and he didn’t grow up anywhere near Appalachia. But then again, his music isn’t exactly traditional. Combining countrified instrumentation with elements of electronic and avant garde, this is music moving ever-onward while remaining keenly aware of the past.

In addition to his solo work, Shane has performed and recorded with groups as diverse as MIT’s Balinese Gamelan and Ensemble Robot, old time stringband Stoop Singers, jazz trio Gryn Gryn, and artists like Evan Ziporyn (Steve Reich), Sean Carey (Bon Iver), and Dean Granros (Happy Apple, Lee Konitz). He’s learned traditional fiddle and banjo in the homes of masters like Lee Sexton and Clyde Davenport, taught courses in West African drumming and American roots music through the Exploration School at Yale University, and is a member of the Eau Claire Music School faculty. Currently, Shane tours with Field Report and Kalispell, playing drums, guitar, fiddle, banjo, and singing.

About the wines

Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port

Six Grapes has a seductive, rich aroma of ripe plums, cherries and dark chocolate notes. On the palate it’s complex, with an excellent structure and a long, lingering finish. Six Grapes is one of Graham’s original Port blends–it is a very full-bodied, luscious wine drawn from the same vineyards as Graham’s Vintage Ports. Blended from two or three years’ harvests, the wine is an average of five to six years old when it is lightly filtered and bottled.

Graham’s 10 Year Old Tawny Port

This Aged Tawny Port is a blend of older wines, which offer complexity and younger wines, which bring fresh fruit flavors and vibrancy. During their long maturing period in oak casks, Aged Tawnies undergo subtle color changes: the deep red hue which characterizes Port’s youth gradually gives way to a paler reddish amber color. Graham’s is known for its rich, elegant house style. This 10 Year has a full, nutty bouquet, the classic Graham’s richness and a soft lingering finish.

Graham’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Amber, golden tawny color. An excellent bouquet, with a characteristic “nutty” character, such as almonds, and delicious mature fruit with hints of orange peel. Rich, sweet and smooth on the palate, it is perfectly balanced, with a long and lingering finish. Graham’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port pairs extremely well with vanilla ice cream or crème brulee. Serve slightly chilled to appreciate the full complexity and sensuous pleasure of this wine.

Graham’s 30 Year Old Tawny Port

Light, orange-tinted amber color, magnificent perfumed nose with great class showing an array of dried fruits. Outstanding mature concentrated palate with full honeyed fruit, gorgeously mellowed. Simply delicious with an aftertaste that lasts and lasts. An excellent alternative to Vintage Port at less formal occasions. Will keep for some weeks after opening.

Graham’s Vintage Port 1994

96 Points Robert Parker,A classic growing season produced grapes in quite superb condition. It soon became apparent during the vintage that the wines would be exceptional. This initial assessment has been borne out by their development in bottle; the wines showing Graham’s characteristic richness, depth or flavour and concentration. Huge ageing potential. A classic.

About The Winery

Graham’s wines come primarily from its own Quinta dos Malvedos near Tua and Quinta das Lages in the Rio Torto. Two others, privately owned by a member of the Symington family, Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta de Vale de Malhadas, also supply Graham with finest quality grapes. All four Quintas are among the best in the upper Douro valley. Graham’s also buys grapes from selected farmers in the finest districts. Some of these farmers have been selling their grapes to Graham’s for generations.
